Medical Emergencies
The Emergency services operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year. To contact the centre in case of a medical emergency, ring (00385) 194 and ask for the Jelsa Emergency Health Centre / Hitna pomoć. If necessary, an ambulance will be sent out, with a doctor for immediate evaluation and treatment. If possible, the patient is treated at the Jelsa A&E centre. However, investigations such as X-rays and scans have to be done elsewhere, either in Hvar Town or in Split. For major problems, immediate airlift by helicopter or speedboat to Split may be organized.
Foreign visitors from countries which are signatories to the Health Care Convention do not have to pay for emergency medical care in Croatia. Those from other countries are liable to costs according to the current tariff.
Jelsa’s Health Centre
The Medical Centre is staffed by general practitioners, a physiatrist, epidemiologist and nurses. It is usually possible to arrange consultations there if needed, and for these a fee is charged.
