Church of St. Nicholas, Zastražišće
The parish church of St. Nicholas in Zastražišće belonged to the common parish of Plama until the 16th century. In 1579, an independent parish was established.
It was apparently not built before the 16th century, and until then the inhabitants of Zastražišće had been using the small church of St. Barbara nearby.
The church was expanded over the centuries, and it took on its current form in 1980, when a tower was built to the southwest. Above the entrance to the tower/bell tower is a memorial plaque to the parish priest Drago Lovrić.
The church has a main altar made of stone and marble, and several wooden statues of saints, and on the altar of Our Lady of the Rosary there is a panorama of Jelsa, in front of which is a statue of the Rosary from 1901.
The feast of St. Mikula (Nicholas) is on December 6.
On Maundy Thursday, a procession through the village takes place in the evening, and an early morning procession with the cross begins on Good Friday and goes around Poljica, across the Vela Stiniva bay, and back to Zastražišće. The beautiful panoramic views from the church are truly breathtaking and worth the visit.
