Poje Hvar

Through private cooking classes and dinners, Poje offers an authentic experience of local traditions, culture, and history. The menu is based on family recipes, homemade drinks, and fresh ingredients from Poje’s own garden. Guests enjoy an intimate and personalized culinary experience, together with field tours, tastings, and storytelling about Hvar’s rich heritage.

Wanna Eat Like a Hvar Local? Poje Hvar offers a boutique dining and cooking experience set in a family-owned field, part of the UNESCO-listed area known as the Stari Grad Plain, Ager, or Hora. Poje’s rustic environment, enclosed by dry-stone walls and surrounded by artichoke bushes, almond and olive trees, a lavender field, and a vineyard, creates a beautiful setting for our culinary experience — traditional dishes presented with a modern twist on traditional delicacies.
This ancient agricultural landscape has been cultivated continuously for over 24 centuries, dating back to the arrival of Greek settlers in 384 BC.
Poje’s cooking classes and dinners offer a window into Hvar’s past, showcasing local stories, authentic recipes, and freshly harvested ingredients. Guests can pick produce from the organic garden and learn about traditional cuisine and regenerative practices.

Menu at Poje
The menu reflects Hvar’s humble heritage—dishes that were once staples of simple island life but are now considered delicacies. Each dish is prepared with carefully selected ingredients, many sourced directly from our fields or from local farmers and fishers.
Cold Starter
● Hvar Platter: A selection of aged goat cheese in home-produced extra virgin olive oil, artichokes, salted fish, sea fennel, olives, capers, all drizzled with our own extra virgin olive oil.
● Basil Dip (“Murtela Bites”): the Family’s signature basil spread served with fresh bread.
● EVOO Tasting: Tasting of the family’s home-produced extra virgin olive oil throughout the experience.

Warm Starter
● Hvar Šalša with Pasta: A traditional tomato sauce, slow-cooked for hours with island herbs and served with aged goat cheese over pasta.
Main Courses
● Eggplant Casserole (Melanzane alla Goat Cheese): Layers of eggplant combined with goat cheese aged in extra virgin olive oil and slow-cooked in a rich sauce infused with Hvar’s signature herbs.
● Traditional Hvar Octopus Stew: A slow-cooked seafood dish featuring octopus, cuttlefish, and/or squid in a rich sauce infused with Hvar’s aromatic herbs and salted tomato paste, served with a slice of corn polenta flavored with Hvar herbs and drizzled with our extra virgin olive oil
Dessert
● Lemon Cake with Extra Virgin Olive Oil: A moist and refreshing cake made with our extra virgin olive oil and family-grown lemons from the village of Dol on Hvar.

Who is Behind the Poje Concept?
Kornelija and Morana transitioned from the corporate world to reconnect with the land and share authentic traditions with visitors. Poje Hvar is a family-run, women-owned business inspired by generations of knowledge passed down from Nonna (Grandma).

Commitment to Hvar’s tradition and organic farming ensures that every guest enjoys insights into Hvar’s rich heritage and respect for nature.
Cooking classes and dinners are limited to six guests per day, ensuring a personal and intimate experience. On special occasions, the experience can sometimes be expanded to accommodate more guests (8-10).
The listings are available on the following platforms: Eatwith, TripAdvisor, Viator, Get Your Guide and Traveling Spoon. Alternatively, feel free to call the numbers below directly.
