The “Faria” Women’s Association
Today, in this hectic world when we all turn to modern solutions, tradition is slowly being forgotten and left in an old dusty drawer. In order to put an end to this, and to introduce a breath of freshness into our everyday life, in 2014 the diligent women of the island of Hvar founded a women’s cooperative with an interesting name “Faria”.
The main goal of this cooperative is to market the products of our extremely rich heritage through healthy flavors and aromas. It is time for all the forgotten recipes of our grandmothers to see the light of day and win your hearts. The raw materials used in the production originate exclusively from the island of Hvar, so that each product deservedly bears the title “Croatian island product” which is awarded once a year by the Ministry of Regional Development. It is important to emphasize that all products are produced in limited quantities thus achieving exceptional quality that is recognizable in its rich flavors and irresistible aromas.
Wondering where you can find these products? You can find all the delicacies on the shelves of small, specialized shops on the island and beyond. Homemade creams and scented soaps, orange or lemon peel wrapped in sugar (a product better known as arancini) can serve as an ideal gift for your loved ones. Chocolate lovers will not be disappointed once they try pralines stuffed with white chocolate and sage.
Of course, what better than lavender, rich in aroma, to add to chocolate praline. You just have to try it!
In addition to these traditional desserts enriched with notes of modern flair, something really praiseworthy, old and traditional should be presented. We are talking about the famous “Starogrojski paprenjok” cake, which has been present in our tradition for 500 years. Stories say that the golden hands of women and mothers of sailors prepared this cake for their husbands and sons when they went to the sea because the said cake was fresh for a long time and also helped them in forecasting the weather. Namely, when it softened, it was known that the weather would turn rainy, and when it hardened, the strong northern wind would blow.
The association is full of plans for the future, from placement in new specialized stores, to promotion at fairs or various collaborations with entities of similar interests. We have no doubt that these ingenious women are already preparing new surprises for all gourmets and lovers of tradition. No matter which of these products you decide to taste or take with you wherever you go, let our island remain in your memory as well as the love and attention woven into every detail.
