Imagining Gardens
On Sunday, 30.7. at 9:00 p.m. on the Pjaca, the end of the artistic residency Imagining Gardens in the form of a traveling performance will take place inside the Jelšan castle.
Imagining Gardens is a contemporary opera curated by Anja Leko, Andrej Beštak from Croatia and Paula Płavniece from Latvia. It will be presented as a performance piece in movement that encompasses the entire kala, in collaboration with the local choir of St. Cecilia. The backbone of the performance is the exploration of the Anatomy of an Island, which explored the lives of the inhabitants of Jelša’s narrow street called kala, whose gardens, usually closed to the public, will be the central location of the performance. The work, supplemented and elaborated during the 10-day residency in Jelsa, contains numerous locations through clay, multimedia and sound installations, and vocal performances. Imagining Gardens is a journey through the hidden, shadowed part of Jelsa, rediscovering almost forgotten ancient knowledge and perceiving the growth and renewal of animal and plant matter as a portal to an alternative reality. Artists participating in the residency are; Hugo Baranger, Rebecca Merlić, Robert Fenrich, Sunčica Bandić and Dora Brkarić.
