Italian or French? Pearls of opera literature

Artistic director: Simon Dešpalj (Orlando – Florida, USA, 1974) graduated in conducting in 1999 at the Academy of Music in Zagreb with prof. Vjekoslav Šutej.

He started working as a conductor and choirmaster in 2000 at the Croatian National Theater in Osijek, since 2004 he has been employed at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, and since 2010 he has been the title assistant at the Music Academy in Zagreb in the Department of Singing. In 2013, he was accepted as an assistant professor and permanently employed at the Academy of Arts in Osijek for the courses Study of Opera Roles and Conducting, and in 2016 he moved to the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the same position. In 2022, he will be promoted to the title of associate professor at the same institution.

He conducted orchestras in Croatia (Zagreb Academy of Music, INK Pula, Zagreb Philharmonic, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Zadar Chamber Orchestra, Croatian Chamber Orchestra), at the Osijek Summer of Culture, at HNK Osijek and HNK Zagreb; he performed at concerts and seminars throughout Croatia and in Slovenia, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Serbia, Kosovo, Israel, France and Montenegro.
