Parish Church of St. Anthony the Abbot, Vrisnik
The parish church of St. Anthony the Abbot is located on a hill, on the northern side of the village of Vrisnik, with a beautiful view of the surrounding villages and the sea.
The parish church of St. Anthony the Abbot was built in 1410, and a little later Vrisnik became an independent parish (1430). The current form of the church of St. Anthony the Abbot owes to the alterations in the 17th century. The then twin churches of St. Anthony the Abbot and St. Catherine were remodeled, their vaults were demolished and the building was vaulted with a unique broken vault with sashes.
The approach to the parish church is beautifully paved with stone pebbles, along which there are beautiful rows of cypress trees, and immediately in front of them in 1857 the Church of St. Roch was built, which was built by Baron Ivan Grgičević based on the vow of the people of Vrisnik at a time when cholera was ravaging the island.
The feast of St. Anthony the Abbot is celebrated on January 17th, so after the mass celebration, folk festivities continue here until late into the night.
The church contains late Gothic stone statues and a valuable painted crucifix from 1637.
The complex of the parish church of St. Anthony the Abbot and the chapel of St. Roch is listed in the Register of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Croatia.
