Honey is a sweet substance that bees make by collecting nectar from the flowers of plants, which they enrich with the substances of their body, process and store in honeycombs, where they cover it with wax covers and, in this way, store it. The main ingredients of honey are sugars (grapes and fruit), water and about 6% of other substances.
These substances include minerals, proteins, acids, vitamins, enzymes. They give honey a certain taste, color and aroma. The natural property of honey is crystallization, which is conditioned by the amount of moisture in the honey and the ratio of grape and fruit sugar. Therefore, some types of honey crystallize after a few days, and some remain in a liquid state for many years.
Our beehives are located in two locations, one is in Zavala (south side of the island of Hvar), and one is on the island of Šćedro. We are a family farm with a beekeeping tradition of more than 60 years. We are based on honey production exclusively from the south side of the island of Hvar.
We offer rosemary honey, heather honey, plantain honey and mixed honey. Our family farm is located in Zavala and it is possible to visit and taste honey in our tavern. We also deliver by agreement in the area of Hvar and by mail to the rest of Croatia.
