Šćedro’s Feast Day
Šćedro celebrates its Feast Day in honour of Our Lady of Mercy every year on the first Wednesday in July. Mass is con-celebrated by several priests in the little church which was part of the 15th century Dominican monastery. The building is not only small, but quite dilapidated, which somehow makes the veneration all the more special for the attendees, most of whom have come over from the mainland via Zavala by water taxi. After the religious celebration, it’s ‘open house’ all around, where the few local home-owners welcome all guests to join in and enjoy their hospitality. Feasting continues late into the night in true Dalmatian style with eating, drinking, and singing in harmony, klapa-style.
