Jelsa Rowing Club
Rowing is one of the best forms of cardiorespiratory exercise for good health. Situated right by the sea, Jelsa’s rowing club enjoys unprecedented success on all levels, thanks to the dedicated efforts of a few committed people. The club has been in existence for over 40 years, in its way preserving Jelsa’s proud maritime history.
Crews from the club regularly win medals at regional and high-level regattas. Besides expert technical coaching, the club offers excellent land training facilities in its fully equipped gym. Fun and fitness are part of what’s on offer at the club. Children are encouraged to join in fitness classes, and venture on to the water as soon as they are ready. They learn advanced boating skills at the earliest possible age.
The club was founded by Juraj Gamulin of Jelsa, a noted oarsman, with the support of the ‘Mornar’ Rowing Club from Split. Day-to-day running is managed by the indefatigable Jerko Božiković.
The club is situated on the Jelsa waterfront in the area called Lučica, where the daily catamaran for Bol and Split now has its mooring. It is active all the year round. Visitors to Jelsa are welcome to apply to use the gym or other facilities, depending on their experience.
