Recreational and Sport Fishing at Sea
A permit is mandatory for any kind of sea fishing around Hvar, as in the rest of Croatia.
Permits for recreational and sport fishing can be purchased online through the website of the Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development. Permits may also be available through fishing clubs or specialized fishing shops.
The annual licence for recreational sea fishing is issued between 1st December and 1st March, and is available through this link. Speargun fishing is not allowed. Holders of the annual recreational fishing permit can buy special licences allowing fishing using traps, harpoons, bottom set longlines and artificial lighting.
To be eligible for a sport fishing permit, you must hold a valid membership card from the Croatian or another national sport fisheries federation. To apply for a sea sport fishing licence, click here.
Permits issued electronically are confirmed by email as a PDF document, which contains a receipt for your payment and the serial number of your licence, which is also held in the system. You should keep the record of your licence serial number safely, as no paper document is issued.
For Croatian speakers, the main source of information relating to sea sport fishing in Croatia is the Croatian Federation for Sea Sport Fishing – Hrvatski savez sa sporstki ribolov na moru, which is also on Facebook.
